Don't worry about the people in your past; There's a reason they didn't make it to your future.
India Covid vaccination milestone

India Crosses Milestone Of One Billion Covid Vaccination

This week India has achieved a great milestone with covid vaccine administration. On January 16th, 2021 the first Covid vaccine was given. Within 278 days India achieved its milestone by administering the Covid vaccine to one billion people! It means on average India administered 3.6 million doses per day!! While many countries are still struggling to convince their citizens to get vaccinated, in India vaccination is going on non-stop for the past 278 days. India’s goal is to fully vaccinate about a billion people by end of this year. Healthcare workers and Health officials worked hard to reach this milestone and India is celebrating these heroes.

India faced heavy criticism due to Covid related deaths during the second wave. The vaccination drive picked up fast after 46 days and the shortest time taken to complete 10 crores was just in 11 days. On September 17th a record of 2.5 crore doses was administered in a single day. On October 22nd India achieved its milestone by administering 100 crore vaccines.

After China which has administered more than 200 crore doses, India is the only second country that has reached this milestone with more than 100 crore jabs and the graph is rising steeply. According to a Government source, almost 75% of the eligible population has taken at least the first vaccination dose, eight states, and Union Territories achieving 10% coverage of the first dose.

“This achievement belongs to India, every citizen of India,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Twitter. “I express my gratitude to all the vaccine manufacturing companies of the country, workers engaged in vaccine transportation, health sector professionals engaged in vaccine development.”

Which vaccines are approved in India?

Total seven vaccines are approved for use in India. However, currently the two vaccines Covishield (Oxford/AstraZeneca formulation manufactured by Serum Institute of India ) and Covaxin of Bharat Biotech in collaboration with ICMR, NIV are available. Covaxin is an inactivated vaccine containing viruses whose genetic material has been chemically treated not to replicate but to trigger the immune response. Covishield is an adenovirus vectored vaccine, adenoviruses are common viruses that cause flu or cold-like symptoms. Adenovirus vector vaccines are modified as a Trojan horse to deliver the genetic instruction of the SARS-CoV-2 Virus that produces spike-like protein thereby creating an immune response.

Data from phase 3 trials of Covaxin shows that it is 78% effective against the virus and 100% effective against progression to severe disease. Whereas Covishield is 63% efficient and studies show Covishield is also effective against B.1.1.7 and B.1.617 variants.

It takes 2-3 weeks after completing the entire vaccination schedule to get an adequate immune response from both these vaccines from India. As per the Health ministry, the longer the gap between two doses, the more robust the immune response! One should take the same vaccine in both doses.

Other vaccinations that are approved and not yet administered in India are ZycoV-D – DNA vaccine, Sputnik V – non replicating viral vector, Ad26.Cov2.S (of Johnson & Johnson), Moderna (mRNA -1273). There are more vaccinations are in trial and are expected to be released in another 3-4 months.

Why it is important to get vaccinated?

  • By being fully vaccinated, one can resume the pre-covid life and normal activities
  • Vaccines continue to reduce a person’s risk of contracting the virus that cause COVID-19, including variants.
  • Vaccines continue to be highly effective at preventing hospitalization and death, including against any variants.
  • Fully vaccinated people with breakthrough infections from variants appear to be infectious for a shorter period.

Get vaccinated and take necessary precautions to protect your life and lives of those who around you.

Are you looking for Stress free zone?

Are you looking for Stress free zone?

If a person is undergoing stress and anxiety body will also respond to the feelings. When we are stressed out, angry, upset or sad, body tries to tell us something by reacting to these feelings.  People who are undergoing through stress and anxiety often develop high blood pressure, diabetes, stomach ulcer, rashes, hair falling, weight gain or loss. These physical conditions are related to how our mind is thinking and feeling. This connection of mind and body is very delicate.

Some of the physical sign a person can develop during stress are:

  • Back pain
  • Change in appetite
  • Chest pain
  • Constipation or diarrhea
  • Dry mouth
  • Extreme tiredness
  • General aches and pains
  • High blood pressure
  • Insomnia
  • Palpitations
  • Sexual problems
  • Breathing problem

Learning how to cope up with stress is important for our health. Weak emotional health results in poor immune system. When the immune system is down simple conditions becomes unbearable to manage. Cold and infections can go beyond control, chronic pain can aggravate, any exercise may not help the body to energize or one may not feel like exercising at all.  Alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuses are many times results of emotional health. Researchers also believe that if mind is not happy then the body where the mind lives is also not happy. We cannot avoid things that are going to happen or what has happened but we need to learn how to be happy to keep our selves healthy.

Remember when we are stressed out bodies pump out hormones. These hormones job is not necessarily to be harmful but can help body to recovery. However, if the stress is too long and if reaches a point where body cannot handle it then people will get sick. These hormones weaken the immune system’s ability to fight sickness.

How to overcome stress?

1) Take time off for yourself and learn to relax- Things can wait.  Sometimes we all need that time where we can be alone and not disturbed. While alone, you will get some breathing time for yourself,  to think about yourself and to come out from the bad mood.  It is like rebooting computers and recharging the cell phone!

2) Talk to a person who can listen to you and understands you (without spreading gossips). If the stress is because of someone’s actions – keep away from the person or talk it over. Communication helps a lot!

3) Be with people who talks positive and will show you the positive aspects of a problem.

4) Read good books, watch something that keeps you encouraged and takes your mind off.

5) Visit nature and spend time with pets – Pets care about you- no matter what. Take your dog for walk in nature or play with your pets to take your mind out of the stress.

6) Exercise – as they say people who exercise daily are happy people. Exercise takes out your stress. It helps to improve mood and changes the body’s stress response.

7) Of course, then there is yoga and meditation – It is important to find inner peace and calmness in a place. We should be able to visit this place almost every day.  Yoga helps you to reconnect with mind. Every muscle in the body that is undergoing through tension has to be relaxed. Breath in and out – learn to breath in yoga way. You will really feel good and do not forget to carry that calmness out of the yoga class with you.

8) Spend time with family and friends – go out for dinner or lunch. Laugh and have good dessert.  Remember- it is not about eating or going out. It is about spending quality time with family and friends who understands you and who will help you to relax.

9) Here is another old fashioned solution – SCREAM ! Yes, this is one of the recommendations. Screaming has proven to drain stress levels! Make sure to select a place where you can and will be able to scream and yell. Breathe in, breath out and scream.  In order to let go of our emotions, that is sitting inside and bothering us it is a good way to let go through screaming and crying.

In life, everybody goes through the stress. The intensity of stress may be different. It is always not possible to solve the problem immediately. Most of our stresses are due to family, work, abuses, unemployment, friends, unable to reach goal, love failure etc. Time is a healing factor and solution will emerge when we are calm and when we look at things in a different angle (in a positive way).    It is important to learn to how to overcome stress and calm our mind so that, our body feels good and healthy.

Malaria vaccine

Groundbreaking Mosquirix RTS, S Malaria Vaccine is Here

Finally, long awaited Malaria vaccine is here to protect children. In a major medical breakthrough, World Health Organization (WHO) recommended World’ first Malaria vaccine. Also known as RTS,S dubbed Mosquirix is recommended to use for sub-Saharan Africa and other regions where malaria is a common disease. WHO’s this recommendation is based on the results from an ongoing pilot project in Kenay, Malaawi and Ghana that has reached more than 800,000 children.

Malaria remains as a primary reason for children sickness and death in Africa. In Africa alone nearly 260000 children under the age of five die annually due to malaria disease.

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of WHO “Using this vaccine on top of existing tools to prevent malaria could save tens of thousands of young lives each year. For centuries, malaria has stalked sub-Saharan Africa, causing immense personal suffering, We have long hoped for an effective malaria vaccine and now for the first time ever, we have such a vaccine recommended for widespread use. Today’s recommendation offers a glimmer of hope for the continent which shoulders the heaviest burden of the disease and we expect many more African children to be protected from malaria and grow into healthy adults.”

What is RTS,S vaccine? It is a vaccine that acts against Plasmodium falciparum the malaria parasite. It is most prevalent in Sahara regions of Africa. Vaccine is named RTS because it was engineered using genes from the repeat (‘R’) and T-cell epitope (‘T’) of the pre-erythrocytic circumsporozoite protein (CSP) of the Plasmodium falciparum together with a viral surface antigen (‘S’) of the hepatitis B virus (HBsAg).

The vaccine significantly reduces malaria and saves children life. Mosquirix was developed by British drugmaker GlaxoSmithkline in 1987. Bharat Biotech is the Indian partner of Mosquirix vaccine manufacturing. WHO’S approval of vaccine came only recently after surveying the results –since from 2019m 2.3 million children were administered the vaccine.

Even though, malaria is endemic in India, malaria vaccine getting into national vaccination program might take some time. India’s goal is to eradicated malaria by 2030. In India malaria cases have declined significantly by 20% in 2019 compared to 2018. In India P. vivax is the parasite agent. Mosquirix vaccine acts on P. falciparum and to include in vaccination program a vaccine must show at least 65 per cent efficacy. According to the reports, Bharat Biotech has not yet unveiled its plans to release the malaria vaccine in India yet.

Key Findings of Malaria vaccine pilots:

  • Feasible to deliver: The vaccine is feasible, saves lives and improves health and equitable coverage of RTS,S seen though routine immunization.
  • It is for all: It is easily accessible for malaria prevention. Pilot program showed that more than 2/3 of children the three countries who does not have mosquito net are benefitting from the vaccine. It is also a preventive measure for the kids.
  • Vaccine exhibits safe profile:  More than 2.3 million doses of vaccine have been administered in these countries and it is safe
  • Reduction in malaria: Even in places where insecticide treated nets are used, malaria vaccination introduction has reduced cases by 30%
  • No negative impact : Where malaria vaccine is introduced, there is no negative impact on childhood vaccination or health seeking behavior or to use insecticide treated nets!
  • Cost effective: Vaccine is cost effective in areas of moderate to high malaria transmission.

RTS,S vaccine research has been funded, most recently, by the non-profit PATH Malaria Vaccine Initiative (MVI) and GlaxoSmithKline with funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Financing for the pilot program has been mobilized through an unprecedented collaboration among three key global health funding bodies: Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance; the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria; and Unitaid.

Lose the war and save relationship

Lose the war and save relationship

Disagreement, fights, criticism, arguments and tears all these are part of a marriage relationship.

In the heat of an argument the anger shoots up and causes disturbance in the head and ultimately spoils the mood.

Spoiled mood sometime stays longer and can create havoc in the relationship.

Many times, it is the ego that stops us saying sorry or stops us to approach partner. If everyone has that much ego, we all will end up in an unhappy married life.

If you love the person and you know how good the person is then you should plan your mind to work on a betterment in the relationship.

To save the relationship sometimes plan to lose the war or get ready to fail. Keep in mind that all relationships do not sail easily.

There will be difference in views and opinions that can lead to disagreements and fights. Discuss your disagreements: Learn to accept the fact that “I do” always don’t work in your relationship. Discuss about your views and differences with your spouse. Accept disagreements with respect in your relationship.
Realize relationship becomes stronger with disagreements too: Disagreement can be good for your relationship. Instead of accepting what your spouse expresses, say what is in your mind – politely and affectionately. Your spouse may realize that he/she might be wrong and it will help them to change for better.
Things may not end up with what you want: And it is okay. If you lose the fight that is okay because you always have to remind to yourself that you are fighting for something bigger. You don’t want to win a war and lose the relationship with the best person you have in your life.
No one is perfect: Who does not do mistake? Everyone commits mistake. Learn to accept small mistakes in life from your partner. Don’t make a big deal of small mistakes. Don’t bring up past mistakes and try to beat the person.
Learn to accept the partner the way she/he is. Because If you had married someone exactly like yourself you would have very quickly become bored. Because you both are unique, you will look at life in different ways. If you accept your partner, you increase the likelihood that he or she will in turn accept you.
Pleasant interactions: Let your communication be devoid of criticism, anger, or judgment. Talk about topics that are of interest to both of you, spend time together working on valued project, or take turns sharing meaningful feelings and future goals.
• All those fights, arguments happen because of differences. Learn to celebrate the differences in various ways. Be open minded and flexible to your partner views. If you disagree with your partner’s views convey it in nicest way.

Marital relationships blossom when a husband and wife not only tolerate, but celebrate the differences between each other by accepting each other. Your goal in a relationship is not to avoid these conflict situations, or punish yourself when they happen, but rather process the damage done and make repair.

Kitchen ingredients substitutes

Smart kitchen substitutes for easy cooking

Sometimes we might not have ingredients or essential cookware in the kitchen. Be smart and use substitutes for the ingredient that you are looking for. If you know which substitute you are looking for, keep some of the ingredients handy in your pantry shelves.

Planning on making cutlet and you are out of bread crumbs?  Look for oat meal, unsweetened cereal or crumble few crackers – use one of them instead place of bread crumbs.

Ran out of lemon? If you have Citric acid powder use it, or use white vinegar (same amount as lemon juice)

No cake pan? Don’t worry. Use an ovenproof ceramic bowl instead. Place them on baking tray and use hot pads to lift after your work done.

Easy way to marinate vegetables: Use Ziploc bags. Place vegetables and marinating ingredients. Seal and shake the contents. Refrigerate for few hours. In between shake marinade contents.

No corn syrup? If you are looking for one cup corn syrup – then dissolve 1 and ¼ cup brown sugar in 1/3 cup water. OR, use 7/8 cup honey!

Cocoa powder: No cocoa powder available? Use unsweetened chocolate

Evaporated milk: Recipe called for evaporated milk and you don’t have? Use one cup light cream.

Recipe calls for red wine? You don’t drink wine? No worries, pick up grape juice and use same amount of grape juice as wine that the recipe calls for.

Ketchup replacement: For one cup tomato sauce add 1 tsp vinegar and 1 tsp sugar

No butter for cooking? Instead use 7/8 cup vegetable oil and ½ tsp salt (for 1 cup butter)

Mashed potato? Don’t want to eat potato, then use mashed cauliflower.

For pasta – substitute with healthy vegetable noodles

White rice – Substitute with cauliflower rice. Using food processor pulse cauliflower with coconut oil and get cauliflower rice.
