Grandma’s advice for new born care

Grandma’s advice for new born care

Life changes with baby’s arrival. Responsibility increases and you will need to start sharing your love too!

Baby needs good care and gentle care.

A child’s body is gentle and giving loving care helps baby to be healthy.

Baby will amaze you with growth and it is fun to watch their world and behavior.

Grandma’s advice for new born care for baby’s better health and development is worth reading.

  1.  Baby bath: Make sure to check water temperature before giving bath! Keep towel ready always next to bath tub. And, don’t forget milk bottle – it should be ready too! Don’t attend to phone even if it keeps ringing hundred times! Never leave baby in the tub even for a second alone.
  2. Swaddling: Use a nice, soft cotton hooded towel for the baby. Don’t use harsh clothes because baby’s skin is soft and tender!
  3. Burping: While burping put baby on shoulder and gently give pat on back. This removes gas from tummy and reduces crying. Baby’s tummy irritation shows in her crying.
  4. Diaper: Always stock up the supplies along with rash cream and baby powder. You never know how and when indigestion starts. Always carry extra diaper in your baby bag.
  5. Feeding: Learn what baby needs – when you give her milk hold her in crook of one arm and feed her while holding milk bottle in the other. Use high chairs for baby when she needs it. Keep baby food in front of her and let her use her hand a bit to get to know the food. For first few months baby need liquid food and semi solid food.
  6. Dressing up: Dress baby according to weather. Don’t bundle up baby during warm summer. Summer means nice cotton clothing for baby. Winter time bundle up her when you are stepping out. Inside home use appropriate clothing that keeps her warm.
  7. Sleep: Let baby sleep on her back, not on her stomach. This avoids any unfortunate events like SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome). Be around her and watch her for few more minutes while she is going to sleep. Your presence gives baby confidence and feeling of protection.
  8. Holding: Support baby’s head while carrying in arm. Do not throw baby in the air and catch. Doing so can only increase the chance of injury. Lift baby gently in your arm. Give massage using baby oil to reduce body pain.

Sometimes cancer does not cause pain till later stages of development. During hormonal change most women feel this pain and surprisingly left breast in women will pain more than right!.

Breast pain also known as mastalgia is generally a transient symptom of menopausal symptom and will remain for some time. Once the transition is over, pain reduces and disappears. During period time too, women experience this pain along with body pain.

Causes of breast pain:

  • Pregnancy: When woman becomes pregnant due to hormonal changes and blood flow to the breast results in acute tenderness and causes extreme pain
  • Mastitis: It is the infection pain breast during breast feeding period.
  • Muscle damage: Pectoralis major is located around and behind breast. When this muscle damages due to physical exercise or other types of strain it can radiate pain
  • Hormonal fluctuation: When woman goes through menstrual cycle and menopause stages she experiences pain in the breast -it can be in one point or entire breast can feel pain.

Two types of breast pain are:

  1. Cyclical breast pain or cyclical mastalgia is common type of breast pain and is responsible for most cases. Dips in levels of progesterone and estrogen causes inflammation and soreness in the area resulting in discomfort and pain.
  2. Non-cyclical breast pain – it is rare and not caused by hormone. It is musculoskeletal pain related to muscle trauma in the chest or ribcage. Pulled muscle or tissue damage can be reasons for this type of breast pain. Arthritis or pinched nerve in the neck may be the reason for this pain.

How to manage breast pain:

Three ways to manage breast pain are:

Lifestyle changes: Change in habits and adjustment in lifestyle might help. Instead of sedentary lifestyle or high fat diet go for exercises, walk.

  • Try something like dance which gives movement for entire body. Cut down on fat.
  • Wear padded bra and feel comfortable. Do not wear bra that has underwire lining. While going to bed remove bra.
  • Wear comfortable clothing.
  • Practice breathing technique while visualizing relaxation and happiness
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Include beans, raspberries, artichokes, avocado, green vegetables in your diet. Reduce caffeine and salt.
  • Have a strategy and work on it. Focusing on such activities is helpful to reduce breast pain.

Alternative medicine and supplements: Some herbal medicines are helpful.

  • Consume phytoestrogenic supplements like black cohosh.
  • Macafem is another product that helps to restore natural hormonal balance.
  • Include flax seed supplement in your diet. It is also an excellent source of phytoestrogene.
  • Vitamin E supplement is helpful for cyclic breast pain
  • Evening primrose oil: Applying evening primrose oil followed by a warm water bath is helpful too
  • For sore breast give massage using slightly warm coconut oil, sesame oil or olive oil.
  • Add few mint leaves in drinking water and keep consuming throughout the day.

Medications:

This is the third option. Contact your doctor for pain killers. Explain your pain and how you feel. Many women find relief by taking pain medications like Aleve, paracetamol or Tylenol. Your doctor may suggest to go through scanning of breasts in case the pain is not reduced.

Balancing hormones naturally is helpful for breast pain. Getting good hours of sleep, sleeping regularly, avoiding alcohol, practicing yoga and Pilates, Zumba, and exposing body to sunlight helps to balance hormones. If you have persistent breast pain contact your doctor.

Kids manners

Manners that kids should learn

All kids are not born rude. If kids behavior comes across rude then it is not intentional. Kids might not realize how their behavior and what they are saying. In today’s busy life both parents might not have enough time to focus on their children’s behavior. However, it is necessary for parents to make time to teach and focus on kids’ manners to raise polite, well behaved and kind child. Make time to teach some of these manners to kids and tell them why it is important.

  1. While receiving something from family or friends or if someone helps them saying “thank you”
  2. When asking something from someone always add “please”
  3. “Excuse me” – a phrase should be used when trying to gain attention right away
  4. Do not criticize people in public, keep negative opinions to yourself
  5. Never comment on someone’s physical appearance or disability
  6. Do not interrupt when elders are talking and discussing.
  7. When people ask how are you…say I am doing good, thanks and how they are?
  8. While playing with friends, learn to share things.
  9. Don’t call people by mean names – it will hurt their feelings
  10. Never gang up against or make fun of a person. It is a cruel behavior.
  11. When visiting friends house acknowledge friends’ parents and say thank you for having you over at their house.
  12. Before entering someone’s room, knock on the door and seek permission. Remember people need privacy.
  13. Inside classroom, pay attention to teacher (even if it is boring)
  14. Always recognize and acknowledge known people. Greet them with a smile.
  15. Never peep into someone’s stuff without their permission.
  16. If adults ask for small favors and help, do not complain, do it with a smile
  17. When you walk through a door, hold it open and see if someone is entering or exiting the door.
  18. When you have cough and cold, cover your mouth.
  19. Do not pick your nose in public – it is considered as disgusting and unpleasant behavior.
  20. If you bump into somebody, say sorry or excuse me
  21. In front of anybody do not use foul language.
  22. If someone gives you a gift, send an email (if you don’t have one, seek your parents help) or send a thank you note.
  23. If you don’t like the food, don’t be angry. Be polite and convey message calmly.
  24. After eating food, wash your hands and mouth. Do not cross contaminate the food.
  25. Be kind to pets and other animals. Do not kick things or animals.
  26. Stand in line and follow rules – rules are there to protect

If these manners are not adopted at young age, as they grow up to be adults, saying thank you, sorry or excuse me becomes difficult. These are not polishing words, these are kind and pleasing words that one like to hear.  By listening often and practicing, good manners will implement in kids’ life and it helps them to be social and successful.
