Blue-green leaf plant Rue is grown in garden to protect the garden plants! Benefits of Rue does not stop there, and it is popularly known as Herb of Grace. Other names for Rue in Indian subcontinent are sadapu, ruta, sadab etc. It is a small plant with yellow flowers, grows 2-4 feet and has a unique odor that some people may dislike. It belongs to Rutaceae family or hing (Asafetida). Plant is used in cosmetics, alternate medicines and in home remedies. Rue botanical name is Ruta graveolens. It grows well in garden. Both flowers and leaves are useful for various conditions.
Benefits of Rue is attributed to its major active constituent Rutin a flavonoid. It also contains quercetin, furocoumarin and lemonins. Rutin is responsible for specific action of the herb. It reduces cells damage by preventing free radicals. The most popular use of Rue is anti-aging of skin. In addition it is helpful in relieving edema, removing cholesterol toxicity, strengthening blood vessels, prevents blood clots and thrombosis.
Other ingredients in Rue is, vitamin K, alkaloids, volatile oils – these compounds helpful in preventing certain other conditions.
