Home remedies for piles

Hemorrhoids are swellings that develop around and inside the anus. It is commonly known as piles. Blood vessels, muscles all are part of it. Size of hemorrhoids can vary and depending on the size it can come out from anus. Sometimes it can cause problem and might need surgery.

Before going to surgery, understand what is the reason for development of piles? Inheritance factor is also a reason. Pregnant women often develop piles due to pressure in abdomen.  One of the major factor is obesity and diet.

Unhealthy diet that leads to constipation and obesity both can together be reason for pile and other health conditions.

Home remedies for piles

Milk and lemon juice: Add few drops of lemon juice to one cup milk, mix and drink it before milk breaks. Try this in empty stomach every morning for few days. Acid present in lemon juice helps in controlling this condition.

Diet: Diet plays a major role in controlling piles. Follow strict diet -,

  • Avoid fast food items
  • Avoid fatty and fried items – Deep fried food damages hemorrhoids and leads to more serious condition.
  • Avoid heavy spicy food as they are not good for bleeding piles and increase the pain.
  • Consume buttermilk and yogurt
  • Including cucumber and carrot helps – eat them with breakfast. Carrot has anti-inflammatory properties and the good digestive fiber in carrot makes it easy on system. Vitamin C and K in both vegetables improves vein health.
  • Avoid food that creates heat in the body
  • Eat fresh vegetables and fruits
  • Do not eat heavy fibrous food either. Fibrous food can cause bulk formation in colon.
  • Avoid fasting
  • If you have constipation problem take necessary action. Contact doctor and find out the reason for constipation

Castor oil: Add 3 ml of castor oil to a glass of milk and drink every night. Apply castor oil externally to alleviate pain

Laxatives: Do not take too many types of laxatives as the loose stool can increase the pain and inflammation.

Asafoetida: Adding hing or asafoetida in cooking helps to improve digestion and cures piles. Drink buttermilk with hing and salt – or add hing in lightly spiced curry or while cooking vegetables.

Water intake: Increase water intake for better bowel movement. Drinking 8-10 glasses of water each day makes digestive system function smooth and it regulates bowel movement.

If you can afford to get goat milk then a tsp of powdered mustard seeds in half cup of goat milk with little sugar for taste. Consume this in empty stomach early morning to prevent bleeding through pile.

Banana and milk: Mash half banana and mix with a glass of milk. Drink this for good bowl movement.

Carrot, spinach and turnip leaf juice: In equal amount mix juice of these three vegetables and drink. Turnip is known to cure digestive disorders.

Coconut oil: Applying coconut oil in the anal area helps to reduce the inflammation and burning sensation if any.

Drink ¼ cup of radish juice start once a day and increase it to twice a day.

Powdered dry mango seeds Mix two teaspoons of mango seed powder with little honey and have twice a day.

Soaked figs: Overnight soak 3 figs in water. Next day consume this in two parts along with the soaked water.

Onion and honey: To one grated onion (red), add one table spoon of honey, mix well and consume.

Aloe gel: Applying Aloe vera gel helps to reduce the inflammation and itching. It also gives relief from the pain.

Keep the inflamed area moist: Take bath 2 to 3 times a day. If you have a bath tub, soak your body & bottom portion in warm water for some time. It helps to shrink the inflamed area and itching.

Pomegranate peel drink: Sun dry pomegranate peel (make sure no fungus on the skin). Soak sun dried peel in water for 30 minutes.  Once it is softened add one tsp of cumin seeds, ¾ cup buttermilk, pink salt a little and asafoetida. Grind it to a smoothie. Drink this 2 or 3 times a day to get relief from pile.

Sitting? – Avoid sitting for longer period -Symptoms of pile aggravates with pressure on rectal area.
