Accept Yourself, Accept Your Body
Every one of us go through this phase not once but many times in our lives – worrying about our body image especially as a student, young adult, in our 20’s & 30’s, during middle age. Who determines how we look and who decides what is feminism and masculine? Is it magazines, beauty products, celebrities, fitness tantrum or all of these? In this era of selfie we want to have a perfect body so that, we can post our images on all social media. To have perfect so called “body image” we tend to punish our body and hurt ourselves very badly.
What is body image? Body image can be defined as how you see and picture yourself in your mind and what you believe about your own appearance which includes your memories, assumptions and generalizations.
- Body image is also how you feel about your body, including your height, shape and weight.
- Body image also includes how you feel about your body and how you sense, feel and control your body as you move.
- More importantly, body image is how you feel about yourself when your body moves when you are alone or when you are socializing. In other words how you feel inside your body.
