How to reduce last few pounds?

After working hard and shedding many pounds you want to look slim and fit and you want to reach your goal as soon as possible.

But, there is a problem? You got to the dreaded last five pounds, and it is proving to be difficult to lose that weight even after trying hard. Isn’t it?

Then listen to grandma what she has to say for losing those last few pounds…

1. Limited snack: Change the snacks from low fat cookies, crackers to oranges, carrots, celery. The snacks that you have been eating might have helped you a lot but now the body needs something little more vigorous to bring down those last few pounds. Oranges, grapefruit, carrots and celery can help.

2. Portion size: Look at your portion size. Recheck the calories on food packages and go a bit low on portion. Drink more water and green tea. This will help to bring down few pounds.

3. Burn the fat: If you are continuing your 30 minutes’ routine every day, go bit extra for few more days. Increase workout another 10 to 15 minutes and help your metabolism to help you out.

4. Watch your sugar intake: Recheck your sugar intake in drinks. For few more days, go with sugarless tea and coffee. Instead, add little lime juice and ginger to tea and consume.

5. Get good sleep: Sleep helps! If you skip sleep you might feel bit heavier. Instead, try sleeping extra half or one hour and see the effect.

6. Intermittent fasting: Try this too! If you eat three meals a day in a week, then try to cut down your intake on two days – eat only 25% of your usual calories two days. Another option is to restrict your eating time to certain hours (within 7 or 8 hours) and fast rest of the time.

7. Lift weights: Continue lifting weights to burn extra calories. Don’t give up on this.

8. Continue walking: Instead of hitting gym, go for longer walks. Walks helps in losing pounds faster than any other workouts. Walk and move minimum 10,000 steps a day.

9. House work: Move around and clean the house. Cook your meal, do your daily chores. Gardening, watering, climbing staircase, vacuuming and mopping floor, folding cloths etc – You won’t believe how much these house works helps to lose few extra pounds!

Stop thinking too much about last few pounds that you need to lose Worry can make you gain weight or might not help in this matter. So, stop focusing too much on your weight. If you know you have made it this far, then losing that last few pounds will be easy. Instead of focusing on last few pounds, think how to have fun and be fit.

Diamond Shrummz illness

Illness Potentially Associated with Consuming Diamond ShruumzTM Brand Chocolate Bars, Cones, and Gummies -CDC Warning

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), America’s Poison Centers, and state and local partners are investigating reports of severe acute illnesses potentially associated with consuming Diamond ShruumzTM brand chocolate bars, cones, and gummies marketed as containing a proprietary blend of mushroom. As of June 11, 2024, 12 total illnesses and 10 hospitalizations have been reported in eight U.S. states with ongoing efforts to identify other potential cases. The cause of the reported illnesses is not known at this time. Individuals should not eat, sell, or serve any flavors of Diamond ShruumzTM brand chocolate bars, cones, or gummies, and should discard products that have been purchased. CDC and FDA are working to determine whether other products from this company are associated with adverse health effects.

Background:

CDC and FDA have received reports of severe acute illnesses and other adverse effects following consumption of Diamond ShruumzTM brand chocolate bars, cones, and gummies reported to multiple poison control centers across the United States. These products are distributed online and at retailers including those that that sell hemp-derived (e.g., cannabidiol [CBD], delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol [THC]) and smoke/vape products nationwide.

Products containing psychoactive compounds such as cannabis or mushroom extracts are increasing in availability. These “edibles” are often sold as gummy candies, chocolate, or other snack foods. They might contain undisclosed ingredients, including illicit substances, other adulterants, or potentially harmful contaminants that are not approved for use in food. Mushroom-containing products have been marketed for promoting health or for achieving nonspecific physical or psychoactive effects. Examples of health claims have included improving focus and increasing energy. Advertising for these products has also implied that consumption would lead to feelings of euphoria, hallucinations, or psychedelic effects. Common terms used in marketing include “microdosing,” “adaptogens” (substances to help the body adapt to stress), “nootropics” (substances that enhance memory or cognitive function), or “functional mushrooms.”

Adverse effects reported to U.S. poison centers in 12 patients who sought medical attention after consuming Diamond ShruumzTM brand chocolate bars, cones, or gummies as of June 11, 2024, include central nervous system depression with sedation, seizures, muscle rigidity, clonus, tremor, abnormal heart rate (bradycardia or tachycardia), abnormal blood pressure (hypotension or hypertension), gastrointestinal effects (nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain), skin flushing, diaphoresis, and metabolic acidosis with increased anion gap. Ten patients were hospitalized, and several patients required intubation, mechanical ventilation, and admission to an intensive care unit. None have died.

CDC, FDA, and America’s Poison Centers are continuing to monitor cases of illness reported to poison centers nationwide. Any suspected cases or adverse effects after consuming any Diamond ShruumzTM brand products should be reported to the Poison Help Line.

Recommendations for Clinicians:

  • Counsel patients, caregivers, and guardians not to purchase, consume, or serve Diamond ShruumzTM brand chocolate bars, cones, or gummies.
  • Counsel patients, caregivers, and guardians to avoid consuming mushroom-containing edible products claiming to produce neurologic, cognitive, or psychoactive effects.
  • Be aware that “edibles” or food-like products marketed with nonspecific health benefits or implied psychoactive effects might contain undisclosed, misformulated, or unapproved ingredients that can cause severe adverse health effects.
  • Have a high index of suspicion for severe illness in any patient who recently consumed any of these products presenting to a healthcare facility with any adverse effects. Symptoms might include, but are not limited to, central nervous system depression with sedation, seizures, muscle rigidity, clonus, tremor, abnormal heart rate (bradycardia or tachycardia), abnormal blood pressure (hypotension or hypertension), gastrointestinal effects (nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain), skin flushing, diaphoresis, and metabolic acidosis with increased anion gap.
  • Obtain early consultation with a medical toxicologist with expertise in managing patients with acute unknown ingestions. Contact your local poison center for advice on medical management of these patients.
  • Managing symptoms from an unknown exposure primarily involves supportive care and consultation with a poison center or toxicologist. Common treatments include IV fluid hydration, supplemental oxygen, and ventilatory support for respiratory failure. Benzodiazepines might be indicated as first-line medications to treat seizures, muscle rigidity, or agitation. Consider the possibility of concomitant ingestion of other drugs or medications and be aware that other specific antidotes (e.g., naloxone) might be indicated.
  • Consider routine diagnostic testing if indicated based on the patient’s clinical presentation. Examples might include, but are not limited to, a comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP), including serum electrolytes, liver enzymes and BUN/creatinine; complete blood count; arterial blood gas; urinalysis; and urine drug screen.
  • Consider consulting a neurologist for evaluation and further diagnostic workup such as electroencephalogram (EEG) or imaging studies if there is any concern for status epilepticus. [4]
  • Consider retaining urine and blood samples for further testing. Urine drug screens commonly used in healthcare facilities usually only detect a limited number of compounds. Decisions to perform further testing may be based on discussions and coordination with a poison center or local health authorities.

Contact your local public health authority or regional poison center to report cases of illness after consuming mushroom-containing chocolate or other similar edible products.

Recommendations for Public Health Practitioners: Be aware that cases of severe illness have been reported following consumption of Diamond ShruumzTM brand chocolate bars, cones, and gummies.

Educate the public about the risks of eating mushroom-containing edible products marketed with claims of nonspecific physical effects, health benefits, or implied psychoactive effects. Such products might contain potentially harmful undisclosed, misformulated, or unapproved ingredients.

Coordinate with your local poison center (1-800-222-1222) and other relevant stakeholders to discuss any suspected cases of illness due to these products within your jurisdiction and establish preferred processes to collect information on suspected cases.

Recommendations for the Public :

  • Do not buy, eat, sell, or serve Diamond ShruumzTM brand chocolate bars, cones, or gummies. Discard and destroy any product that has been purchased.
  • Do not consume chocolate, gummies, snack foods, or other edible products claiming to produce feelings of euphoria, hallucinations, or psychedelic effects. They might contain undisclosed ingredients that might be linked to severe illness.
  • Store edibles and other products that contain mushrooms, THC, or CBD safely away from children. Children may mistake some edibles for candy.
  • Seek immediate medical attention or call the Poison Help Line (1-800-222-1222) for advice if you have consumed a product and are having symptoms. Signs and symptoms may include gastrointestinal effects (nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain), hallucinations, uncontrolled movements, fast or slow heart rate, high or low blood pressure, coughing, choking, excessive sweating or secretions, and flushed skin. Other severe adverse effects have been reported, including seizures, decreased level of consciousness, and respiratory failure.

Consumers are also encouraged to report adverse events related to these products to FDA MedWatch.

Ayurvedic nutrition for young girls

Ayurveda Interventions To Help Improve Nutrition Intake In Adolescent Girls

Adolescent girls are at increased risk of nutrient deficiencies due to their elevated nutritional needs during growth spurts, as well as factors like menstruation, which can lead to iron deficiency anemia if not properly addressed. Ensuring they receive adequate nutrients can prevent deficiencies that may have long-term consequences on their health. Improving nutrition in girls also helps in their growth, cognitive development, immune function, reproductive and bone health, improves mental health and overall well-being. Govt. of India recently has taken additional steps to improve adolescent girls’ nutritional quality via Ayurvedic method – Healthy Life.

Ministry of Ayush and Ministry of Women and Child Development have signed a MoU for the nutritional improvement in adolescent girls through Ayurveda Interventions. It is a Joint Public Health Initiative for “Anaemia Control among adolescent girls using Ayurveda interventions in the five districts under Mission Utkarsh”, today at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. The MoU was signed in the presence of Union Minister of Ayush Shri Sarbananda Sonowal and Union Minister of Women and Child Development Smt. Smriti Irani.

Both the Ministries have jointly decided that in the first phase, the focus may be given to improve the anaemic status of adolescent girls (14-18 years) in five aspirational districts of five states namely Assam–Dhubri; Chhattisgarh- Bastar; Jharkhand – Paschimi Singhbhum; Maharashtra – Gadchiroli; Rajasthan – Dhaulpur.

The Ministry of Ayush and Ministry of Women and Child Development have entered into this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the aim of nutritional improvement of approximately 95,000 adolescent girls in the Anaemia prone districts (where average prevalence of anaemia is approximately 69.5 %) today. This project will cover approximately 10,000 Anganwadi Centres in the five districts.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal stated that both the Ministries are collaborating to make India free of anaemia. To achieve the goal of ‘Anaemia Mukt Bharat’ (Anaemia Free India) MoU has been signed between both Ministries.

Shri Sarbananda Sonowal reiterated, that the Mission Utkarsh launched by our Prime Minister of India with a goal to reach the national average of the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in these aspirational districts.

On this occasion, Smt. Smriti Irani emphasized that introducing Ayush systems, backed by evidence from institutions like ICMR, will offer cost-effective solutions to tackle anemia, hitherto unknown to the world. She said that along with cost effectiveness, introducing 95,000 beneficiaries and time bound outcome, will provide opportunities for medical communities globally to study and reflect upon, whereby making it an initiative of global importance.

Secretary, Ministry of Ayush Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha said, “Anemia in adolescence causes reduced physical and mental capacity and diminished concentration in work and educational performance. It also poses a major threat to future safe motherhood in girls. He said that the traditional systems of medicine in India are the integral part of the health care in the primary health settings.

Secretary, Ministry of Women and Child Development Shri Indewar Pandey said that one of the primary objectives of the Women and Child Development Ministry is to address the challenge of malnutrition in children, adolescent girls and pregnant women for which we run “Saksham Aanganbaadi” and “Poshan” Scheme. He informed that the scheme is being dealt with the support of 13.97 lacs Aanganbaadis across the country. Focusing the girls between 14 to 18 years of age group is important because when they get married after 18 years they can give birth to healthy children in future. With Ayush we have done more 2.7 crore Ayush based activities with “Poshan Maah” and “Poshan Pakhwada”.

The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) has good level of experience in this field. Besides conducting clinical trials, the public health initiatives like, National campaign on Anaemia control through Ayurveda conducted at 323 health centres in 13 states of the country and; a multi-level operational study at PHCs in the Gadchiroli District regarding effectiveness of Ayurvedic Interventions for Ante-Natal care (Garbhini Paricharya) with change in haemoglobin level as an outcome are already implemented successfully by CCRAS.

During the event Prof. Ravi Narayan Acharya, Director General – Central Council for Research in Ayurveda Science (CCRAS), Pushpa Chaudhary, Team Lead Reproductive, Maternal, Child and Adolescent health WHO. Dr Rajeev Bahl, DG ICMR, other dignitaries were also present.

Reduce Period Pain

How to Reduce Period Pain at Home?

Aunt Flo shows up every month, coming along with a lot of pain, and discomfort. Although it’s a natural process that signifies a healthy reproductive system, the cramps that come with it can feel like a punishment. It’s enough to make you want to curl up in bed and hibernate until it’s all over. But have you wondered what devilish forces conspire these scenes? For starters, your hormones. These prostaglandins serve an important function in signaling the uterus to contract and shed its lining, but when they are overactive, they may cause severe cramping and pain.

Uterine fibroids can turn monthly menstruation into a monthly nightmare by increasing both the volume of bleeding and the intensity of period pain. The discomfort is caused by the uterus contracting (cramping) throughout the menstrual cycle to remove the huge blood clots that often occur from heavy bleeding.

Well, PCOD or PCOS can also be added to the list. But dear readers. In this post, we will explore ways to reduce period pain at home.

Tips to Reduce Period Pain

Period Pain Relief Gadgets

The world of period pain relief gadgets opens the options on how to stop period pain immediately at home. Wearable Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) devices provide an additional degree of pain reduction for those who would rather not use their hands for the procedure. These clever tools hit the spot where you’re hurting the most by stimulating the muscles and nerves in your abdominal region with mild electrical pulses. It’s as if you had a personal masseuse at the ready, who could ease your pain at the touch of a button.

We must not overlook the efficacy of vibration treatment either. Massage tools that use mild vibrations to ease muscular tension and increase blood flow range from portable massage wands to vibrating balls. Imagine a relaxing day at the spa for your uterus, without the high cost or uncomfortable small conversation.

Body Massage

Different massage techniques can be applied to target certain parts of the body and reduce menstruation discomfort. It entails massaging the belly and lower back with heated oil. The massage helps to relax the muscles and relieves stress in the body. It also improves blood circulation in the region, which helps to relieve pain and discomfort.

The compression massage method includes applying pressure to the abdomen using the hands, fingers, or a massage instrument. This pressure reduces spasms and relaxes tense muscles. Compression massage is also proven to boost circulation and relieve inflammation.

Compression massage can be performed using the hands and fingers or a massage instrument. The massage therapist will apply pressure to the abdomen region in a circular motion with their palms and fingertips.

Get into Comfortable Body Positions

As a haven from the constant barrage of period pain, women have long sought solace in the calming embrace of familiar body postures. But how precisely can these postures reduce our pain, and what is it about them that makes them so effective?

Whether it’s nestling into a fetal position like a snug little burrito or just sleeping on your side with a cushion between your knees, adopting a posture that supports and cradles your body can do wonders for releasing muscular tension and fostering relaxation.

Restricting blood supply to the pelvic area during menstruation can make period pain worse and make it last longer. To alleviate your symptoms, try lying down with your legs raised or sitting with your legs crossed while gently rocking back and forth. These postures promote circulation and can help boost blood flow to the plagued region.

Get Control Over Period Cravings

During menstruation, cravings for sugary foods and refined carbs are common, and they can contribute to dangerous swings in blood sugar levels. Inflammation and hormone imbalances, brought on by these changes, can make period pain much worse. Stabilizing blood sugar levels and reducing the inflammatory response can reduce cramps and pain. Opting for nutrient-dense, balanced meals, and snacks is a better bet.

Eating meals that are heavy in sugar and processed fats, for example, can throw off your hormone balance and make your period symptoms worse. You can help maintain hormonal balance and decrease inflammation by eating foods that are high in important minerals, such as magnesium, antioxidants, and omega-3 fatty acids. Eating more berries, nuts, seeds, and leafy greens can help regulate your hormones and reduce period discomfort.

Add Herbs To Your Diet

As we are answering your question about how to reduce period pain at home, herbs can be a natural and effective way. Turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon are a few examples of herbs that contain bioactive chemicals that could ease pain and inflammation. You can reduce inflammation and period discomfort by using these herbs in your cooking or drinking their teas.

For centuries, people have turned to herbs like black cohosh, chasteberry (Vitex), and dong quai to help maintain a healthy hormonal balance and control menstruation. By supporting more balanced hormone levels and lowering the intensity of menstruation symptoms, these herbs can help ease period discomfort.

You can decrease the severity of period cramps and spasms by using herbs that calm the muscles, such as chamomile, valerian root, and cramp bark. You can ease period cramps and relax your muscles by drinking herbal teas made with these calming plants or by taking them in supplement form.

Stay Hydrated

Feelings of swelling (stomach or otherwise) or weight gain are common in the days leading up to and maybe even throughout a woman’s menstrual cycle. This is because you’re bloated because of water retention. Even though it’s a typical and frequent period symptom, bloating can be painful and increase the severity of cramps.

Contrary to what you would expect, drinking water often throughout the day can help lessen the discomfort and bloating that comes with your period. It would be helpful to have a water bottle on hand and to fill it up many times during the day. Aim for eight 8-ounce glasses of water daily, however the exact amount can vary from person to person. You can relax your muscles and improve blood circulation just by sipping hot water. Uterine contractions can induce cramps, but this can soothe them.

Heat Pad to the Rescue

Placing a hot water bottle or heating pad against the abdomen can help to relax and ease cramps. Heat relaxes the uterine muscle and those surrounding it, perhaps reducing cramping and pain.

To relieve back discomfort, a person can apply a heating pad to their lower back. Another alternative is to take a warm bath, which can help relax the muscles in your belly, back, and legs.

What if it still doesn’t work?

You can always turn to medication if these natural cures don’t help your symptoms. But keep in mind that “taking the easy road” and depending just on painkillers may not be the greatest strategy in the end. Although they provide short-term comfort, abusing these treatments might result in problems or dependence concerns down the line. Since natural therapies and lifestyle modifications can provide long-term comfort without the risks of excessive pharmaceutical usage, they should be considered first.

Conclusion/ A Farewell for your Period Pain

It’s time to look into more permanent solutions now that you’ve learned how to reduce period pain at home with natural treatments and mindful techniques.
