Valentine’s Day Dessert Walnut Fig Halwa

On this Valentine’s day if you are planning to prepare dessert at home, try walnut fig halwa recipe. You can use either sugar or jaggery in the recipe.

Walnut is source of antioxidant, rich in omega-3- fatty acid. It promotes metabolism, reduces body inflammation, good for heart health. Fig is natural laxative contains good amount of digestive fiber, potassium, calcium and rich in antioxidant. Combination of walnut and fig gives delicious taste to halwa.

Walnut Fig Halwa Recipe

Ingredients:

  1. Walnut – 1.5 cup (crushed)
  2. Fig -1/2 cup (finely cut)
  3. Sugar – ½ cup (or jaggery)
  4. Milk -1/3 cup
  5. Semolina – 1 Tbsp
  6. Clarified butter (ghee) – 2-3 Tbsp
  7. Cardamom – ¼ tsp

Procedure:

  1. Crush walnut to small pieces. Keep 2 Tbsp crushed walnut separate.
  2. On medium heat in a vessel mix water and sugar (or jaggery). Prepare syrup by mixing continuously till you get one string when you hold syrup between index and thumb fingers
  3. Heat ghee in a pan, add semolina and fry under low heat for few seconds. It will release fragrance.
  4. Add one cup of crushed walnut, fig pieces and continue stirring till walnut turns golden brown.
  5. To walnut and semolina mix add sugar syrup ( or jaggery syrup) slowly and cook under low heat.
  6. Add milk, mix well, and continue cooking under low heat for 10-15 mins (If you don’t want to use milk, replace it with little water)
  7. Add cardamom powder to walnut halwa, mix well.
  8. Once the consistency of halwa appears to be good, turn off the heat.
  9. Garnish hot halwa with two Tbsp crushed walnut on top and serve.

PS: Do not use high or medium heat to cook walnut as walnut can burn releasing not so pleasant odor.
