AI Can Affect How Children See Themselves

This is one of the critical areas which parents should watch carefully. We are in an era where social media and AI has a lot of influence on how we should look, act and present.

Children and teenagers are still developing their identities and learning how to evaluate themselves and others. AI-generated images, recommendations and personalized content can influence perceptions of:

• popularity
• success
• relationships
• lifestyle
• body image

The broader digital environment can therefore influence children’s emotional and social development. WHO describes digital environments including social media, gaming and generative AI as important determinants of children’s health and development.
