AI Can Give Incorrect Or Inappropriate Advice
AI is not a human, it is an advanced technology. When a child asks questions, in particular about health, bullying or symptoms, AI can provide convincing answers that could, in reality, be wrong and inappropriate advice. A child can believe this because child thinks AI is intelligent than humans!
This is particularly important when children ask AI about:
- anxiety
- depression
- body image
- eating
- bullying
- relationships
- self-esteem
- physical symptoms
- mental health
The APA specifically says generative AI chatbots should not replace qualified mental health professionals, and that young people need safeguards because they may place too much trust in AI-generated information.
