Physical Activity Limits for Children

How Much Physical Activity Do Children Need?

Nutrition works best alongside regular movement. Children and adolescents aged 6–17 should aim for at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity each day. Activities can include walking, cycling, swimming, dancing, outdoor games and sports.

Parents can help by encouraging active family outings, limiting prolonged recreational screen time and making movement enjoyable rather than a punishment.

Can High Cholesterol In Children Be Reversed?

In many cases, improving food choices, increasing physical activity and addressing contributing medical conditions can improve cholesterol levels. However, children with familial hypercholesterolemia or persistently high LDL cholesterol may need specialist assessment and medication in addition to lifestyle changes.

Do not give children cholesterol lowering supplements or start a restrictive diet without medical advice. If a child’s cholesterol is elevated, a pediatrician may recommend repeat testing, a registered dietitian or a pediatric lipid specialist.

Parents can help by serving fiber-rich foods, choosing healthier fats, limiting highly processed foods, encouraging daily physical activity and following age-appropriate screening recommendations. Early awareness and consistent family habits can support healthy growth and a healthier heart throughout life.
