Easy And Quick Recipe Potato – Onion Spicy Raita

Potato is staple food of many countries and is easily available everywhere! It can be used in many varieties of dishes. Potato curry, saagu, samosa, gravy and mashed potato etc. Have you ever tried potato onion and green chili in yogurt? This is a summer as well as all season side dish easy to prepare and goes well with any types of vegetable rice – pulav, sambar rice, veg biryani or even fried rice.

This dish is popularly known as potato – onion bajji or raita.

Ingredients:

  1. Potato – 1 medium size
  2. Red onion – 1 medium size
  3. Green chilies – 2 or 3
  4. Mustard – ½ tsp
  5. Cumin – ½ tsp
  6. Urad dal – 1 tsp
  7. Curry leaves – few
  8. Coriander – 2 Tbs
  9. Yogurt – 1 Cup
  10. Salt – per taste
  11. Asafetida – pinch

Preparation:

  1. Wash and boil potato, remove the skin and allow it to cool. Cut potato into small pieces.
  2. Cut onion into small pieces.
  3. Cut green chilies.
  4. Mix potato and onion.
  5. On medium heat place small frying pan and get ready for seasoning by adding oil. To heated oil add mustard, cumin, urad dal, cut green chilies and curry leaves followed by asafetida.
  6. Allow seasoning to cool.
  7. Now add yogurt into potato – onion mix, add seasoning, chopped coriander and mix well.
  8. Serve potao – onion yogurt raita as side dish for pulav, fried rice or sambar rice.
  • You can replace regular yogurt with vegan yogurt to make dish vegan friendly
  • Optional ingredients – asafetida
