Grandma’s Khashaya

Khashaya is the Grandma’s age-old method to get rid of irritation in throat, cough, cold, fatigue related to cold and to remove phlegm. Generally khashaya removes phlegm, cold, body pain, improves immune system and remove toxins from the body.

Four types of khashaya are coriander seeds khashaya, ginger-tulsi khashaya, clove-cinnamon khashaya and cardamom khashaya.

Coriander seed khashaya:

  1. Coriander seeds – 100 grams
  2. Cumin – 50 gram
  3. Black pepper – 1 Tbs
  4. Clove – 3
  5. Dry turmeric (turmeric powder) – 1 tsp
  6. Dry ginger – 1 tsp

Dry roast all ingredients and make fine powder using grinder. Transfer powder to an air tight container. When needed boil 2 cups water and add 2 tsp of powder and boil for few minutes. Strain and add little milk and sugar. Drink two times a day.

 Ginger – Tulsi khashaya:

  1. Tulsi leaves – 25 gram
  2. Ginger – 20 gram
  3. Jaggery- 10 gram
  4. Black pepper -1/2 tsp

Grate ginger and prepare pepper powder. To 2 cups of boiling water add tulsi, ginger, pepper powder and jaggery. Allow it to boil for few minutes. Remove from heat source, strain the liquid and add milk. Drink two times a day.

Clove – Cinnamon Khashaya

  1. Clove – 15 gram
  2. Cinnamon – 15 gram
  3. Honey – 1 Tbs

Powder both clove and cinnamon. Add this to 2 cups of boiling water. Let it boil for few minutes. Remove from heat source and strain the liquid. Add honey and drink.

Cardamom Khashaya:

  1. Cardamom -5 gram
  2. Milk – Two cups
  3. Honey – 2 Tbs

Powder cardamom along with its skin. Add it to milk and boil for few minutes. Add honey and drink two times a day.
