Ginger oil with coconut oil

Ginger contains anti-inflammatory property. Zingibain or zingipain is the protease enzyme compound that helps to reduce the free radicles and the pain in joint, muscles and elsewhere in our body.

 

Ingredients:

1.       Ginger essential oil – 10 drops

2.       Coconut oil -20 ml (carrier oil)

 

Preparation and application:

1.       Mix ginger oil with coconut oil

2.       Transfer to a bottle

3.       Before applying, warm the oil and apply on affected area. Massage the portion.

4.       This oil is good for muscle ache and joint pain

Rosemary and Eucalyptus oil

Eucalyptus oil is an analgesic oil that has  anti-inflammatory property and is used traditionally to get rid off many types of pains, soreness and muscle stiffness.  Similarly, rosemary oi is preferred oil to treat arthritis and joint pain. It stimulates blood circulation and used in wound healing.

 

Ingredients:

1.       Rosemary essential oil – 5 drops

2.       Eucalyptus essential oil – 8 droops

3.       Carrier oil like coconut, olive or sesame oil – 25 ml

 

Preparation steps:

1.       Blend all the above mentioned oils well

2.       Transfer blended oil to dark colored bottle

3.       When in need, take few drops, apply on pain area and massage.

4.       This oil works well for arthritis joint pain

Clove oil in carrier oil

Clove oil is used for different conditions. One popular use of clove oil is for tooth ache. It has antibacterial property and hence it gives relief to toothache. The spicy nature of clove is due to eugenol, eugenol acetate and β-caryophyllene. These and other active compounds in clove oil known to have anesthetic (causing numbness ), antiseptic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and rubefacient (warming, soothing and colling) effect.

 

Ingredients:

1.       Clove essential oil – few drops

2.       Carrier oil  like coconut or sesame oil

 

Preparation and application:

1.       Mix couple of drops of clove oil with a tsp of coconut oil or sesame oil

2.       Apply the oil where it hurts.

3.       This oil is good for tooth pain.

4.       You can also add clove oil to warm water and gargle.

5.       Apply clove oil mixed with sesame oil for joint pain, soreness, muscle pain

 

Clove oil with peppermint oil: These two combination of oils (in equal amount with career oil like coconut oil) significantly reduces pain. Topical application of the oil mix, followed by proper massaging reduces pain.

Eucalyptus oil with sesame or olive oil

Eucalyptus oil is analgesic and helps to relieve many types of pains. It is known to reduce body inflammation. Eucalyptus oil is used in ointment, cream, vapor rubs. It contains Eucalyptol which is responsible for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and pain relieving property. One can store eucalyptus oil for many years.

 

Ingredients:

1.       Eucalyptus leaves – 15

2.       Olive oil or sesame oil – 2 cups

 

Preparation steps:

1.       Heat oil on medium flame. ,Once the oil heats up, reduce the flame.

2.       Cut and add eucalyptus leaves to oil and continue heating oil for next couple of hours on low flame.

3.       Turn off the heat. Allow oil to cool

4.       Store eucalyptus oil in dark bottle.

5.       Use this oil to get relief from not only joint pain, also to get relief from headache. Add few drops to boiling water and inhale  for asthma, cough, respiratory discomfort.

Cayenne pepper in carrier oil

Cayenne pepper has capsaicin that makes it not only spicy also one of the desirable pain reliever. Cayenne pepper is traditionally  used for treating migraine, blood circulation problems, join pain and muscle ache. Capsaicin is responsible for its health benefits. One has to be cautious while using cayenne pepper as excessive application can lead to skin irritation and burning.

 

Ingredients:

1.       Oil – coconut, mustard, sesame or olive oil 100 ml

2.       Cayenne pepper – 1 Tbsp. (use pure cayenne pepper powder. There should not be added color)

 

Preparation steps:

1.       Heat oil on medium heat

2.       Add cayenne pepper powder, continue heating oil on low heat

3.       After 15-20 minutes turn off the heat.

4.       Transfer the content to a jar after cooling

5.       Apply the oil whenever you need to get relief from pain. This is one of the best remedies to get rid of joint pain.

Garlic is pungent due to presence of sulfur chemical. But garlic is considered to be one of the miracle herbs because of its incredible health benefits. Garlic oil massage for joint pain and muscle pain is recommended as it prevents cartilage damage. 1.       Garlic cloves – 4-5

1.       Heat mustard oil on medium heat

2.       Add crushed garlic cloves and fry for couple of minutes or till garlic turns brown

3.       Cool and filter the oil

4.       Apply and massage on areas including joint pain, muscle pain areas to get relief.

Camphor and beetle leaf in sesame oil

Camphor is obtained from Cinnamomum species C. camphora. It is a terpene compound used in popular pain balms, cremes and lotions. Camphor tablets are offered to God in many religions. Smelling small amount of camphor reduces headache and clears sinus. Adding camphor crystal (tablet) or camphor oil with other ingredients (see below recipe) is useful to relieve not just the pain, also for congestion, arthritis pain, muscle pain etc. Camphor also has antimicrobial properties and anti-inflammatory property.

 

Indian beetle leaf exhibits analgesic property – warm beetle leaf topical application reduces muscle ache, headache, stomach ache (especially in children). Chewing beetle leaf reduces gum pain by causing temporary numbness inside mouth. Beetle leaf is good for oral health, it is used in treating mouth wounds. 

 

Topical application of below mix of camphor helps to desensitize the nerve ending. It has analgesic property. Thus, topical application gives warm sensation and reduces joint pain.

 

Ingredients:

1.       Sesame oil -200 ml

2.       Garlic – 10 cloves

3.       Beetle leaves – 3-4

4.       Camphor -2-3

 

Preparation steps:

1.       Boil sesame oil

2.       Add crushed garlic cloves

3.       Cut and add beetle leaves

4.       Add powdered camphor

5.       Continue boiling till the beetle leaves turn black.

6.       After cooking, filter the oil and store in a bottle.

7.       Apply the oil on the area where you have pain and massage once or twice daily

Homemade Oil Recipes For Pain Relief

Application of healthy oils give relief when applied on areas where we experience pain. Some of these oils can be blended at home or prepared at home easily and stored for longtime. When in need we can apply and massage the are with these different types of oil to reduce the pain.

 

Massaging oils reduces inflammation, increases blood circulation and gives relief for stressed body. One can use blended essential oils or readily available cooking oils like sesame, coconut, olive oil along with essential oil for external application.

 

Following oils combinations with different ingredients, one can prepare home, keep it ready and use for various pains:

 

1.       Camphor in sesame oil

2.       Garlic in mustard oil

3.       Cayenne pepper in carrier oil

4.       Eucalyptus oil with sesame or olive oil

5.       Clove oil with carrier oil

6.       Rosemary and eucalyptus oil

7.       Ginger oil with coconut oil

 

Note: a) Before applying any of this oil, test it in a small patch on your skin for irritation or any reaction. b) If the pain persists or does not go away consult doctor.
