If you are aware of natural Red #4 a coloring additive that gives red color to candies, then you should also know what is the source for coloring agent?

It is a pigment extracted from the female Dactylopus coccus Costa insect. Carminic acid, carmine or cochineal are other names for this pigment. It is extracted by crushing beetles.

It can be seen in many other products including red candies!

Purple, pink, orange and red food coloring can be derivative of beetle insects. It can cause allergy to many.

Your option? - Avoid foods that contain carmine and go for plant based colored foods.
