Ebola and other high threat pathogens :Last year two separate Ebola outbreaks happened in Democratic Republic of Congo. It affected more than one million people including the areas of conflict zone where population is less. It means such outbreaks can happen anywhere anytime including urban areas, densely populated areas and conflict affected areas.
WHO’s research and development team identify pathogens and diseases that are potential cause of public health emergency but lack effective vaccines and treatments. This watch list includes: Ebola, hemorrhagic fever, Zika, Nipah, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus or MERS-CoV, Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and disease X which is an unknown pathogen that can cause serious epidemic.
