Beware of condition called DVT. It is a common blood clot in deep vein that happens during long journey. It is a clot that can break off and travel to the lungs and can cause blockage in main artery of the lung. This can be fatal! As per WHO (World Health Organization) studies this risk doubles after 4 hours of flying.
The main reason for this conditions is prolonged immobility like the way you sit in desk, car or travel by bus/train etc. The risk is higher in longer flight.
To reduce the risk of DVT –
- Wear compression stockings in long haul flights.
- Drink adequate amount of water (non – alcoholic)
- Move around in the flight frequently unless there is turbulence and seat belt sign is on.
- Airhostess and display monitor might show you some stretches. – Push down alternate legs and stretch your calves too.
