What are some of common sugar added to foods

Brown sugar, cane sugar, sugar, powdered sugar,  raw sugar, corn syrup, crystallized cane sugar, maltose, dextrose, fructose, dextrin, evaporated cane juice, fruit juice concentrate, high fructose corn syrup, malt extract, malt syrup, maple syrup, honey, maple syrup and molasses – these are examples of common sugars added to food. 

Following foods sources that we use in daily life are source of added sugar-,

  • 35.7%  -soft drinks, energy drinks, sports drinks
  • 12.9%- grain-based desserts (cakes, pies)
  • 10.5%- fruit drinks
  • 6.5% in dairy-based desserts (ice cream)
  • 6.1% – candy
  • 3.8%- Packed cereals
  • 3.5% –sugars and honey
  • 3.5% -Sweetened tea/ coffee
  • 2.1%- Yeast bread
